Cuna Nazareth

Cuna Nazareth is a low-income preschool and we go there once a week to help the teachers and play with the children. I had never done it before and I chose it because I wanted to try something new. It has been a very enriching experience full of moments I will keep in my memory forever. At the beginning we found difficulties spending a lot of time with the children in a productive way since they left school at four and we got there at three fifteen and all wanted to play with the youngest ones. This became a problem since no one was helping in the classrooms of students ages 3 to 5 and they could not gain as much from the experience. In the end, we tried to tackle the problem and I proposed having a rotational system so we all got to be with the younger children at some stage in the bimester but also got days with the older students. We all began being with older children much more since we understood the responsibility we had.

I have been attending the five year old classroom the most since the teacher there has allowed me to help in her Monday lessons that focus on developing fine motor skills. I really enjoy this because I feel these children could be learning so much and playing with washing clips becomes repetitive week after week so with the teacher I have found other activities we do on Mondays so that they can still develop fine motor skills but do other creative things at the same time such as painting with strings, creating origami figures and cutting out fun shapes. There are no words to describe what it feels like to see them smile and laugh every time we go.

At the end of the year, we painted one of the playground walls with a big tree and the hands of the children were the leaves.
